A track off Ziggy's album Family Time.Download: Stream: An easygoing journey of original tunes and a few covers, the album offers a full collection of family-oriented songs for those already familiar with Marley's beloved work in the genre, and may serve to introduce today's youngest generation to reggae. Highly listenable many times around, a quality that parents will appreciate, Family Time resonates with themes of love, responsibility, unity, freedom and fun (not to mention generosity - proceeds from the sale of Family Time will benefit Chepstowe Basic School in Port Antonio, Jamaica).' I know how important music can be in a child's growth and development, and in a parent's connection with their children,' explains Marley, whose own brood recently grew to five. But there are many other talented members of this clan and they all get some sort of representation on THE MARLEY FAMILY ALBUM. It should be noted that the term 'family' is used in the modern extended sense-some of the songs on this disc are connected to Bob only through being part of the Rita Marley Music organization.
The I Threes, Marley's former backing singers, steal the show with 'Many Are Called,' a tremendously catchy roots song. Four of Bob's children, including Ziggy, make up the Melody Makers, and the two songs from them are not current. Their youthful sound and unabashed precociousness make a song like 'Sugar Pie' a sentimental favorite. Julian Marley makes a name for himself with 'Lion In The Jungle,' where he manages to sound startlingly unlike his father.THE MARLEY FAMILY ALBUM should go some way in convincing the world that Ziggy and his siblings are not to be confused with the Jason Bonhams and Moon Zappas we have come to know and forget over the years.
Yet, only if they have the strength to move out of their father's shadow will they firmly place themselves into our memories.
